Ken Johnston
BSc (Agric) (Hons)
Senior Turf Consultant
Ken is the founder Sports Turf Technology and has operated the business since 1990. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with honours at the University of Western Australia (UWA) in 1983. Ken has worked in the turf industry for 35 years, including 5 years as a Turf Manager at the WACA ground. He was the principal author and researcher for the Turf Irrigation and Nutrient Study, a three-year project funded by local and state government authorities. Ken has also been a committee member of the UWA โTurf Industries Research Steering Committeeโ since its establishment in 1995.
Peter Ruscoe

Peter joined Sports Turf Technology in 2002 and is part owner of the company with Ken Johnston. He has worked in the turf industry for 30 years, since completing an applied science degree in horticulture with honours at the University of Queensland, Gatton College in 1990. Peter gained a trade certificate in turf management in 2000, while working at Christ Church Grammar School. In 2007, he attained IAL (Irrigation Australia Ltd.) certification as an Irrigation Agronomist. Peter was awarded a masterโs degree from the University of Queensland in 2020, for research into the sting nematode on turf grass in Western Australia.
Marie Egan

Hydrogeologist & Turf Consultant
Marie has worked in the turf industry for 27 years and gained a wide range of turf management experience, having worked in private schools, golf courses, and turf maintenance contracting. In 2003, she completed a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture and Viticulture with honours at the University of Western Australia (UWA), then joined Sports Turf Technology in 2004. She completed a Master of Hydrogeology at UWA in 2018, and has a keen interest in managed aquifer recharge for local government to solve irrigation water source issues.
Matthew Johnston
Turf Technician
Matthew has worked in the turf industry for 5 years and has gained experience in all aspects of soil, leaf and nematode sampling and preparation for laboratory testing. He graduated from Wesley College in 2016 after completing his ATAR. Matthew commenced an apprenticeship with Sports Turf Technology in 2020 and is studying towards a Certificate III in Sports Turf Management.
